"flowders"

thank goodness for allergies... reese and kyle were picking out some flowers for me this weekend. reese chose some carnations, but daddy told her i was allergic to that kind and pointed out some roses instead. god bless him! it's actually about 100 small, pale pink roses. so sweet and pretty!!!

sorry, carnations. you're down there with red roses and baby's breath...bleh! although, i would have loved the thought and that my baby picked them out. Ü

photog in the making

reese has been wanting to "take a picture" a lot lately. here's a sampling of her work. flowers to mommy from reese (& daddy)
mommy
liberty, her horsey (its nose, to be more specific)
daddy
baby doll

perhaps a lesson or two is in order...

labor day

we've had a great labor day. kyle surprised reese and i this morning with chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries! YUM!
after breakfast, we went to a playground at a school in brookside. we swung, slid, climbed, flew the princess kite, collected acorns and played with the new farm tractor toy i bought at Just Between Friends. it was a lot of fun and would have only been better if it were in the 80s instead of the 90s.

love her tongue action here...means she's really concentrating. Ü

we had pizza and salad at hideaway then headed home for you-know-who's nap. boy, was that an event! i think reese's sleep must still be a bit off from being sick last week. she had a TOTAL MELTDOWN. the kind where kyle and i are looking at each other incredulously like "can you *even* believe this?!". and i literally said outloud at one point "lord, help me." she was breaking down in tears about EVERYTHING. it was really bizarre.
once all the drama had calmed down and i was rocking her we had a little talk.
me: baby
her: (she looks at me)
me: even though you aren't being very nice, mommy still loves you
her: ok. i love you.

in the movie How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, i love the part where she tells him "i love you benny boo boo bear, but i don't have to like you right now." hmph!

try, try again

in the past few days reese has started something new... she will ask me or kyle if she can do or have something. when whichever one of us she asks tells her she can't, she immediately asks the other one. she probably thinks she's being so smart, but we are presenting a united front. i think it would be even better if we use the same words, instead of just saying "didn't mommy/daddy just tell you no?" it's funny the things she does at a way younger age than i expected.

sympathy

when reese sees a child or animal (cartoon) that's sad and/or crying, she says "sad...miss mommy".

police.fire.ambulance

when reese sees a police car, fire truck or ambulance without its siren on, she says "broken...need batteries". Ü

we were driving around looking for a house to lease today when it started raining. after a few minutes, reese said in a very concerned and SYMPATHETIC voice "birdy wet...need rain jacket". i tried reassuring her that the birdies were hiding in the trees from the rain and were ok, but she continued saying it several more times. sweet girl. row.row.row

reese was a total ROCKSTAR at swim class tonight! she did SO good with paddling her hands ("row row row"), kicking her feet, jumping from the side of the pool, going under the water and even blowing bubbles in the water. i was so PROUD of her!!! daddy was there watching the whole time, so maybe that had something to do with it.

reese and i drove to dallas for the weekend for our niece claire's high school graduation party. (kyle met us there via a flight from denver the next day) reese was really good on the drive there - even though the car's air conditioning was having issues and kept turning off. she was really GOOD and i was so THANKFUL!

so, we arrived at our friend's new house to go swimming. all of sudden, anytime reese was asked a question, instead of answering 'yes' or 'yeah' or 'yes ma'am', she answered a very nonchalant 'SURE'. it was so funny! it was as if she was trying to be all cool and casual. SURE!

apparently, she continued with the SURE business another day while at munners and g-daddy's. too cute!

she had a GREAT time swimming with cayden, holt and savannah. thanks jay & lisa!!!

boy...friend

reese's first real friend is john austin. he's kyle's project manager, amy's, son. we met john austin almost a year ago and he and reese have spent a lot of time playing together. he's only a couple of months older than reese and they get along really well...most of the time. the exceptions are if reese tries to swipe any of john austin's snacks or john austin has a toy of reese's and she's not sharing well. i know if they could tell you themselves, they would say that their friendship has been a real gift to each of them.

anyway, we hadn't seen john austin in several weeks and got to have lunch with his mom, brand new baby brother, wylie and him today. it went really well. reese was *extra* sweet and gave john austin several HUGS and even a KISS!

john austin is a such sweet and smart little boy and we've really missed him.

baby or "bagel"

in the past week, our BABY has begun protesting at being called 'baby', something we've done pretty much her entire life. don't get me wrong. we also call her 'reesey', 'reese' or if she's in trouble, reese jillian - as well as several pet names like reesey-roo, baby bear, sugar bear and daddy's favorite crazy baby. but baby is what we call her a great majority of the time. all of a sudden, she's decided that name is no longer for her. she says "NO 'baby'! i reese." or sometimes, "NO 'baby'! i bagel." (big girl) Ü it's really cute...but also makes a mommy sad.

monkeying around school - 1 february

how stinkin' cute does my reesey-roo look in this precious outfit she received from munners and g-daddy at christmas?!

hode choo - 1 february

one of reese's most common requests... (hold you)

running.running.running! - 1 february

reese likes to play "you can't get me", especially when i'm trying to take her picture. and EVEN, when we're in a hurry. she likes to run while saying "running! running! running!"

little friends - 31 january

reese and john austin...sweet babies!

party planning - 27 january

because our printer wasn't working right, i ended up rubber stamping all the info on the invitations for reese's 2nd birthday party. it looked pretty cute...but never again. it would have taken me FOREVER to do everything without my sweet friend audra's help. she was a complete life-saver!

puddle-ready - 20 january

i wanted to buy reese cute boots for rainy days and found these with the matching jacket at old navy. she fell in love with them and wanted to wear them all the time. cute! cute!

finding nemo - 16 january

one drizzly sunday in january, we decided to check out the tulsa aquarium. reese seemed to really like the "nemo" fish and watching the divers feed the fish.

some of the fish we saw, and reese looking at the "nemo's"

snip snip - 3 february

reese's hair had been progressively getting more and more tangly. so, i took her to get her first haircut. the place is called something like mr. will's kutz 4 kidz. after looking and looking for a place that specialized in children's hair, i found out about this place from a friend of a friend. it turns out mr. will is a christian, which was an extra bonus for me and has tons of toys, which was a bonus for both me and reese! the chairs kind of look like a tractor and he has a tv with animated movies on. pretty neat! reese was awesome and didn't even fuss! yay!

i'm back

wow! shame on me for not blogging for 3 months. ok, enough of that.

ribbons of light

i saw a precious lampshade decorated with all different ribbons at a craft fair last fall and thought i could make one for reese's room myself. and, i actually followed through and did it. not only that, but it turned out pretty darn cute if i do say so myself. AND, reese really likes it and asks for her "yight" to be turned on.

kitty love and multi-tasking

reese and the boys, cooper and keagan, have been getting more and more friendly lately (i.e. they don't go running in fear at the sight of her anywhere near as much as they used to). i looked over at the bed and this is what i saw a few days ago.

looks like she's going to be a multi-tasker too. she was petting coopy while talking on her cell phone to either munners or john austin and audra. so sweet!

smile

so, i've been trying to teach reese to "smile" for the camera. this is what i got this week.

toddler translations 2

reese is talking in 2-to-4-word sentences now...not all the time, but sometimes.Ü today when we were leaving school she said "bye lella. bye jack." to two of her classmates (ella and jack). she says "lub you, mommy/daddy/teedee (keagy)." she just started saying you're welcome without me teaching it to her. here are some more cute words she says:

money knack = bunny snack
pop pop = popcorn
moosh = move (hears me say this to Andi)
sawdee = sorry (she says this regardless of who's wrong)
doodoo = doodle (a toy she has)
tooktee = cookie
juishe = juice
ausha = john austin
aussie = austin (from backyardigans)
dordah = dora
deedoe = diego
moaners = munners (kyle's mom's grandmother name)
moonie = movie
puhtee moonie= puppy movie (snow buddies movie we rented at christmas)
towler = color (she loves to)
chowder = shower
stroder = stroller (she has one for her new baby)
flittick = lipstick (she LOVES flittick (lip balm)*

there are tons more. i'll have my ears open and post more cute toddler translations and sentences.

oh! i'm teaching her to say her name when asked what it is. she calls herself REEFEY!

how could i forget one of reese's most used sentences and one i couldn't wait to hear. "HODE CHOO, MOMMY. HODE CHOO." awww!

* she seems to enjoy taking the cap off and putting it back on the lip balm as much as putting the lip balm on.

she runs

reese's new thing is running from us. she runs when asked to give something back that she's been told she shouldn't have. she runs to avoid getting dressed. she runs to avoid getting her diaper changed. basically, anytime you don't want to run, she runs...looking back over her shoulder with a big grin on her face!

Christmas Cookies

Reese got to help Daddy make Almond Spritz Cookies a few days before Christmas. They were really yummy!

A White Christmas

It was so neat to have a real white Christmas this year. I looked at it as a gift from God for sending us to Tulsa. Ü The Tulsa area got 4-8" of SNOW on Christmas Eve night!!! On our drive to church it was kind of slushy, but by the time we left it was SNOWING lots of BIG flakes! On our drive home, which includes three different freeways, we averaged about 25 mph and even came to a stop at one point due to one or more cars being stuck in the snow.
i love this pic...maybe because it's one of the rare times she's wearing a cute hat
had to make a stop at Wal-mart on the way home Christmas Eve
My girl does NOT like to wear hats or anything in her hair or even have her picture taken sometimes ): i bought this little dress at Affair of the Heart and had the pom poms and monogram added, which made it that much cuter!

Christmas morning was a lot of fun! The first thing Reese saw and was excited about was her new pink chair from Munners and Grandaddy. She loves it. After that, the things she was most interested in were a Santa PEZ dispenser and some new PINK sunglasses. There were lots of toys. Too many in fact. I think she was a little overwhelmed by it all. But she had a lot of fun. That night we went to see the Chipmunks Squeakquel. It was really cute and Reese had fun and loved getting to eat "pop pop" and go to a big "moonie".

The next day we played in the snow and made a snowman. Reese's favorite part seemed to be throwing snow at Andi...although most of it was sticking to her little gloves. Note to self: find waterproof gloves that actually stay on little hands.

We left for Texas on the 28th, went to three different cities, visited with five different groups of family, returned six days later and considering all that was going on, Reese was really good. She was completely on Holiday Time - late naps, really late bedtimes, etc. But she has gotten back into her routine pretty seamlessly. She had some separation anxiety yesterday at school and today at MOPS. Thankfully, neither meltdown lasted more than a minute after Mommy left.

Reese LOVES to "towler" (color) and talked cousin Matt into towlering too

Munners & Grandaddy went all the way to Fredericksburg to choose a very special Baby Huggums for Reese. She loves her "beebee"!

Reese telling Papa George a good story I'm sure
We will definitely have some sweet memories from the Christmas our baby girl was almost two!
